Stallion
Gradings at Vechta November 2005
We
attended the Oldenburg Stallion gradings at the end
of November, an event that never fails to impress.
The weather turned very cold and snow started to fall
but this did not prevent a very lively trot up outside
on Saturday morning prior to the grading in the afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Pidgeley’s stallion, Furst Final, was a
very worthy second and it was great to have British owners
in such a distinguished line up. It was perhaps unfortunate
that he came up against a breathtaking stallion by Krack
C – Kaiser Karl which was produced by Gestuet Sprehe.
This horse stood head and shoulders above everything else
even though it does not have particularly impressive breeding
lines. He really stole the show and fully deserved his many
standing ovations. Gestuet Sprehe have already added him
to their list of new stallions for 2006 so it will be interesting
to see if his progeny inherit his abilities.
Lauterbach, by Landos S out of a Contender
mare is a showjumper that caught our eye. He was awarded
the verband premium and had also been awarded the Vizelandeschampion
of the 4 year olds at the Spring gradings in Rastede. He
will be stationed with Paul Schockemohle and we intend to
use him on Secret Promise later this year.
Samarant is definitely the ‘new kid
on the block’ in this region. The breeders really rate
him and his display got the crowd clapping and cheering.
Stedinger is a lovely big horse with great
movement and now having seen him in the flesh I can understand
why many of his foals are quite ‘gangly’ – they
are just going to take a little time to grow into themselves
and mature - so having discounted some in the past I would
now reconsider.
Donnerball showed super elastic movement
and has obviously been trained to an exceptional standard
so must have coped well with such intensive schooling.
